Door Phone Configuration 1

Hello!

We have multiple trunk lines coming into our merlin system and one of those lines was configured to ring on every phone in our office and not go through the auto attendant. The call box at the front door of our building dials that line and then we can buzz people in by pressing 9. The door call box is not part of our system, but dials our door line like any other outside phone.

We recently screwed this up and now that line rings through to the auto attendant just like all the others, leaving our visitors quite frustrated and waiting outside. I know that the trunk line is connected to the port for 805, but that's about all I know. How do I go about fixing this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Trunk 805 has probably been assigned to the Voice Mail calling group. Do a print of Group 770 or whatever your voicemail calling group is. Also, a line without a "Principal User" will follow the coverage path of the phone with the lowest logical ID that has the line assigned to it. So, it this line rings at your Operator console, on Logical ID 01, it will also follow to the Operator's voicemail if it is enabled. I assign the trunk to an adjunct extension and make that adjunct the Principal User, changing the name to something logical so later I can remember what that adjunct extension does.

Thanks, Tommy!

The line is now ringing through to the operator console and going to their voicemail (when the operator doesn't answer), so it seems like maybe I'm making progress. I'm having trouble following the second bit of your advice, though. Although I'm somewhat technologically inclined and have been doing my best to make sense of the manuals for the system, there are many basic aspects of the system that I don't understand. Could you please explain a bit more about the adjunct extension/principal user stuff and how to go about carrying out this bit of programming so that the line will ring on all of our phones?

Thanks very much,
Greg

Here's a bunch of cut and paste, and some additional notes:

MLX Digital telephones had an accessory circuit card that could be installed in the base of the set that provided a connection for a single line telephone or an alert. In programming, every MLX extension port also has an adjunct port, with its own extension number. (Never mind that in 25 years of Legend/Magix installation I probably only installed 2 adjuncts)

TDL Digital telephone don't have the ability to install an adjunct circuit card, but in programming, every TDL extension port has an adjunct port.

So if you have a 408-MLX card in your system, you have 8 actual MLX extension ports with extension numbers, and 8 Adjunct extension numbers as well.

If you program via WinSPM, pull a Dial Plan report and an Extension Directory report. If your system is using "Set Up Space", the adjuncts will be numbered starting at 7300. (3-digit dial plan will be 300-499, 2 digit dial plan will be 6850-6992)

Once you're picked an adjunct extension number, you want to assign Line 805 to it, just like the other phones. So Extensions > Line and Trunks > Extension Number > Enter > Entry Mode > 805 > Enter

Next make the Adjunct the Principal User of 805, go to Line and Trunks, More, Principal User, 805, Enter, Extension Number, Enter

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain and walk me through this, TouchToneTommy! Our problem has been solved!

Best,
Greg
