Hello,

I've noticed that there are less and less web-design agencies around and I'm starting to think that only the largest companies can still do this kind of business.
I know that in France the situation is very bad and that salaries have droped like never before. Job opportunities are also scarce.
What is the situation in your area?
Am I too pessimistic?

Thanks.

Yes, you're too pessimistic. I've found that the traditional web development opportunities have been increasing since 2002, and there are new types of opportunities as well, including redesign and maintenance, and business process automation. Most businesses are beginning to outsource most of their IT, including web development. This is the ideal time to capture some of that business. Sincerely,

I suppose I could make that a bit better of a reply [smile]

I really think my own achievments and survival past the IT per say down fall have been due to trying to know and learn to use multiple technologies to suite more needs to clients. I've also not restrivted myself to web development and most of the work I do is actually custom software development and misc. db work.
although my major income comes from web development and it probably will always be.

skills of course are going to help in this field. You're not going to go to a machanic that has a word on him he can't change a air filter. just as your not going to go to a web designer that stills thinks the blink tag is cool. [lol]

I deffinetly say, no this is not a field that is slowing but growing. There is always a small town company that is not on the net yet and there is always the need for further development of exsisting sites. _________________________________________________________

Hmmm... interesting post.

In my city, I seem to notice more and more small
design companies popping up.

However, with all the new design tools coming out.
I see alot of people trying to tackle web design themselves.

Thanks for the feedback!

I guess that people who live in the US are lucky compared to those who are in Europe. In my opinion, people have discovered that being on the internet doesn't mean that hundreds or thousands of people will read their stuff or buy their products.
Only the most famous websites can attract people (such as auctions or free help, etc...).
People use mainly emailing and they are annoyed when they have to swim through all the enormous existing junk when they search for something particular. The promotion of a website is rarely a success.
Perhaps, creating websites for the intranet could be a solution. What do you think about that?
