I'm printing to an HP with dual paper trays but actually any dual tray printer applies. I have plain paper in one tray and special forms in the other.

My software selects the tray and sends the print job. Problem is when the tray empties the printer switches to the other tray and now we have a problem.

The hardware techs tell me there is no way to stop this activity. I reviewed the PCL commands and could not discern a solution. Anyone know how to stop the automatic switch to the other tray on a paper out situation?

Which printer?

You should be able to lock the try so the printer will
only pull from it by command.

I believe it was an HP 4xxx series (like 4400?).

One of the menus on the control panel, probably
the Paper Handling Menu lets you specify a paper type
and size. Set it to let's say cardstock, not plain.

Now the printer should only pull from that tray with an expicit PCL command to do so.
