I have a group of PC's in accounting that don't want the date changed on their PC's when the log into the domain... I know I have done this before .... but have lost my notes. ??

First see if you can stop the service "net stop w32tm" then make sure the w32time.dll is registered (if you get a 1085 error that you cant start the service with net start w32tm)

"regsvr32 w32time.dll"

"w32tm /resync" should do the trick then.

Hope this helps.

CStorms:
Wouldn't "w32tm /resync" restart the time syncing to the server ? That's what I don't want.

Oh I thought by "dont" you meant were being picky and didnt sync when you wanted them to, sorry then yes. Disable the time service. Sometimes internet dialog gets the best of me.

Cstorms:

OK ! Thanks I'll try that.

You realize that that has the potential to cause all kinds of problems, right? The very nature of consistency in Active Directory requires that machines be synched to the same time source. And that sync activity is built in and automatic.

As soon as some machines get far enough our of sync, they'll stop being able to get logged in.

I guess I am confused on why the date would change. I can understand if they are in a different time zone and the time might change, but there are 2 things to remember that there is Local time and Net time. Net time has to be within a few minutes. Net time and Local Time can be independant of each other. You should have a NTD setup via DHCP on your domain to handle your net time. If the local PC time is set to a different time zone it is suppose to apply the local time zone settings.

There is no need to configure anything in DHCP for time sync. Time sync is handled by the holder of the PDC emulator FSMO role. This is typically the first DC in your network. Time sync happens automagically on all AD computers. No need to configure anything else, and no need to put anything in login scripts, etc. In fact, doing so can cause excessive bandwidth usage.
