I just learned the hard way that using a 9.1.4 or older manager on 9.1.5 and up has an issue with some new SIP security stuff.

Merging the smallest of changes from an older Manager wipes out all the SIP supervisor/login codes of all your SIP sets.

Ehhhrr...This goes for any scenario, never use an earlier Manager than the IPO you work on. Common sense really. :)

Kind regards

I thought that was a given... But I also never use 9.1 on anything not 9.1. 9.0 seems to be the last truly backwards compatible version. 9.1 on earlier versions tend to bugger the hunt groups, lines and such. (Currently have 7 different versions on my service laptop)

Fair enough, but I've never seen it corrupt a config before so I thought I'd share.

If it's common sense, then its always worth mentioning again with extra special details on how it burned me.

I'm happy to wear today's dunce cap!

9.1 has been a challenge for our team. Lots of odd changes that didn't make it to the release notes. I wish they would slow down and test their software and firmware before release. (I mentioned that on my Partner survey this week {not to say they read them})

I opened a 9.1 config tonight with my 8.1 manager and just found it odd that I had to use the Service user name and the system password and it didn't even complain that the system is a newer release. I didn't save any changes because it dawned on me before I screwed it up.

I wrote myself a simple python scrip that reads the cfg file & decodes user password, login code & VM code.

it is not 100% & needs some more work but saves me fighting with our IT dept/Antivirus software.

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

This particular issue has been a little frustrating for me. Avaya provided us a patch to the 9.1.4 Manager to address hunt groups not displaying properly and explicitly told us to continue using the patched 9.1.4 Manager with 9.1.5. Hunt groups still do wonky stuff with 9.1.6 Manager and so I have used the 9.1.4 Manager on a newer system and had this exact issue. Thanks for pointing it out.

Also, it wiped out all the conference bridge PINs too.
