ok, here is my question... i have a column with several different names, some of them multiple times, how can i go through the list and just pick out each name only once...

A B
Fred Fred
Jack Jack
Jack Wilma
Jack Rick
Jack
Wilma
Wilma
Wilma
Rick
Rick

any ideas?

Use the Data|Filter|Advanced Filter command on your menu.

Easy.

1) Data Filter AdvancedFilter
2) Copy to another location
ListRange = A1:A11
CopyTo = B1
UniqueRecordsOnly

You will then get a list (with a header of "A") starting in B1.

Who is Wilma ?

Wilma is Barney's wife.... i couldn't remember Fred's wife's name... all i can remember is dino, bam-bam, and pebbles.... :)

thanks for the help... it works great.:)I i feel very educated today

Actually Wilma is Fred's wife. Betty is Barney's s-)

Oh yea!!! that's right... i have always gotten those 2 mixed up... don't know why... thanks! X-)

Looks like MisterC knows his Flintstones !

I always thought Wilma was kind of bossy.

yep, i'm sure glad we don't have to drive those kind of cars anymore, they must have been TERRIBLE on ling road trips!! :)

question... when i do that advanced filter thing, my first name is coming up twice... any reason? i thought it might be putting a title for the column... will it always put the first one twice?

Advanced Filter requires a header row in your data - it is treating your first data row as the header so you see it twice.
To resolve this, give your data a header row. :)
By the way, I still drive a car like Fred's (seems like it sometimes anyway...)

Thanks guys, you have really helped me today.... i gave you both stars.... :) you're awesome!!!

Stars are always welcome. X-)

Probably gives away what I lacked during :)I days . . . .

Hey, Dreamboat, and thanks for the welcome. Its an honor to be welcomed by one of this forum's top experts! :->

I see you are an instructor. Do you teach all of the MSOffice suite? On what level?

I chose instructor when I first logged in because it was the closest thing to what I do, which is over-the-phone software support for a firm with BIG client companies. I did start instructing on the MS Office suite about a year ago, part-time in the evenings. Intro and Intermediate is all I've taught. Usually one-on-one, occasionally two or three students at a time.

You sound curious about something. Feel free to email me if you have any questions, and we'll quit spamming these poor people!
