Although Macola sent out numerous 7.6.200 CD's, they are now claiming (see macola's website) that these CD's were only meant to go to a select group of 'controlled' users. Sounds fishy to me, but bottom line is; don't install 7.6.200 if you've received the CD.

Does this contain the compiler change from Microfocus to Fijutsi?

7.6.200 is the fujitsu compiled code at last...however as the posted pointed out there are a few problems yet. Kirk if you need a 7.6.200 CD I can get you one. Let me know. Software Sales, Training, Implementation and Support for Exact Macola, eSynergy, and Crystal Reports

Actually, I have advised my clients to wait until the release that follows the initial compiler change release before they attempt this. This is akin to putting a new foundation under a house that has already been built, so I think the brave should go first.

I agree totally Kirk. Software Sales, Training, Implementation and Support for Exact Macola, eSynergy, and Crystal Reports

Hello All,
DO NOT! I SAY DO NOT INSTALL 7.6.200!!!!
I already had my share of nightmare. Although I'm slowly fixing things here and there. Main issues involve resetting to DEFAULT (your customizations will need to be redone); PRINTING; SOME MODULES MAY NOT FUNCTION AS EXPECTED; ESPECIALLY: EDI.
Spare yourselves the trouble. Let me be the BETA_TESTER for all you guys because right now, I dont really have a choice, right?

zedsdead,

WHen you say your customizations need to be redone, what do you mean by that? Flex? Screen designer? What do you mean by resettin gto default? More info please. Software Sales, Training, Implementation and Support for Exact Macola, eSynergy, and Crystal Reports

Macola....slowing going out of business....mark my words......5 years from now they won't be around. :)

dgillz,
Reset to default, meaning you may have to recreate any modified screens or fields that you created in Macola (Designer OR cRYSTAL), becuase the update/ upgrade "RESETS'TO THE ORIGINAL MACOLA SCREENS/FIELDS. (ACTUAL DISCLAIMER ON CD). aLTHOUGH I HAVENT ENCOUNTERED ANTHIN IN CRYSTAL YET.
I just inherited this network and I still need to learn more. If you could give me a tip on getting my modified screens back thatll be great.(MACOLA SAID:RECREATE).
Besides that, Macola have been sending me 'patches upon patches'. It seems that they deliberately put their customers as BETA-TESTERS. i AM STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF FIXING THINGS. A-WAIT-AND-SEE PATCHES FROM THE MACOLA SOLUTION TEAM.

Why will Macola go out of business? What are people switching to?

because of macola ES......syspro is a better alternative. :)

If I was Macola, I would be very worried about Great Plains, which has been bought by Microsoft. They have just come out with Forecasting, Foreign trade and Manufacturing modules that blow away anything Macola has. It also seamlessly integrates with Office. Macola, on the other hand, barely seamlessly integrates with Macola. Microsoft knows that it can't compete with SAP in the big corporate market, but they also know how poorly served the small and mid market companies are by Macola, MAS 90, etc and are smacking their lips at their prospects.

agreed about Great Plains...even though its MS only....but thats a different story. :)

Macola users, admins!
I will be receiving a "new updated" MACOLA 7.6.200 disc#2 from well, who else...
Will keep you updated of any result. I believe there are only few accounts that are receiving this (we dont have a choice anyway), before the actual mass production and re-release. Im not sure if this should be kept in confidentiality but i think i owe this information to you guys as fellow customers and users. The last few patches i received have worked so far. We'll see what happens with the whole new disc.

I need an advise on how to handle this whole issue - the fact that our account is practically being used as "beta-testers".

zedsded,

Did you save a copy of the screens directory before you upgraded? If so, you could export your modified screen sets from the prior version (if you can install on a local machine somewhere) & import them into the new version, provided the ddfs in the screens folder did not change. Seems kind of putzy, sure, but recreating screen sets for many users can be a nightmare, too. I haven't attempted the 7.6.200 install yet, so I can't verify if the ddfs are different or not. I'll be anxious to hear when the dust settles from this update since I wait to upgrade my clients until the hot fixes stop coming out regularly.

MACOLAHELP,
WILL TRY THAT, THANK YOU.
AND TO UPDATE YOU ON MY THE STATUS OF MY "FIX" FROM MACOLA...JUST GOT HOME AND NO, IT DIDN'T REALLY WORK. FIX ONE PRINTING PROBLEM BUT THAT WAS ABOUT IT. WILL CALL THEM FIRST THING TOMMORROW. GOOD THING I WAS USING A TEST SERVER (HAD TO BE VERY CAUTIOUS NOW).

HERE'S THE UPDATE ABOUT 7.6.200:
WE ARE ROLLING BACK TO THE PREVIOUS VERSION 7.6.100 -PER MACOLA RECOMMENDATION.
I SUGGEST YOU KEEP YOUR DISKS (IF YOU HAVE ANY) IN THE YOUR DRAWERS OR BETTER YET, PUT THEM IN THE "RECYCLE BIN" WHILE PRESSING SHIFT KEY :)

ANY ADVISE ON ROLLBACK PROCEDURE (SAY, IF I DON'T HAVE AN AVAILABLE BACKUP COPY FROM PREVIOUS VERSION; PSQL ENGINE ON WIN2K SERVER). I'M JUST TOO EXHAUSTED TOO THINK LATELY... AND I COULD USE A FEW MORE SETS OF BRAINS
THANX!

Anyone know what the status is of this update? Is it safe to do at this point?

If you contact your re-seller they can order you a CD that has the latest code corrections. Be aware that this is not considered to be "General Release" (GR) code, but is intented to correct a large majority of issues clients encountered with the earlier releases. There are still a number of problems that are related to Win98 that are open. Exact has not published a General Release date for 7.6.200. If you do not have any compelling issues with your present version, I would sit it out until after 7.6.200 hits GR. Otherwise, just get the fixes and ride out the storm.

As for the other diatribe on Exacts future, One should ask the question "What is Microsoft going to do with Great Plains (who bought Solomon), Navision, Axapta and the other ERP aquisitions" Do you really think Microsoft will continue to support all of them?
