Hi guys,

I've got a page which takes a considerable time to load due to circumstances beyond my control. I would like to display a 'loading' page almost like a preloader in Flash which will change to display the data page once it has loaded.

So basically, what I'm tyring to do is request 2 pages at the same time; one to display immediately, and the other to replace it once it has loaded. Any ideas?

I could use flash to do this, but I've been told not to.

I've not explained this very well, so if you need any more info let me know.

Thanks,

SS

Thanks Bob,

I thought about doing something like that, but that means it'll work fine when the page takes time to load, but when the information has been cached, users will be waiting unnecessarily.

One idea was to add a new page to our site, like a splash popup containing details of changes, additions and news. Then users would read this, while the other page loads.

Hi,
Couldn't you open another window using JavaScript as your first bit of code in the page, then use onLoad to close it after the page has loaded?
If you're not sure how to do this search around in the JavaScript forum, I'm sure I've seen this answered there before.
