Hi guys,

I was recently donated a HiPath 4000 communication server with 3 AP 3700 modules for use in my program. The system came with no documentation or username or password. I want to set it up to provide switching and training in the classroom. Is there a way to locate the username or password? Will a factor reset help me out and if so how do i do it?

I can use the Assistant software, but cannot enter the administration portion of the system. Any help I can get about this system is much appreciated.

Try the following:
User engr
Pass hicom

--TIger

I tried the username & password it did not work.

Assuming that the system is V5 or lower:

Assistant is a Unix-based server. Since you no doubt do not know the Customer LAN port's IP Address, try using the Atlantic LAN, which uses a constant, never-changing IP scheme.
Again, making an assumption that you were given a cPCI shelf with DSCXL server(s) --> connect a straight-thru LAN cable to the RJ45 port labeled "ATLANTIC" (or "SERVICE") on the DSCXL board plugged in to slot 1 -the bottom slot of the cPCI shelf. If you were provided with a different type of processor shelf, or "cabinet", let me know, and I will adjust my explanation.

Connect the other end of this straight-thru cable to your PC's Network Interface Card (NIC)/RJ45.
By the way: With such an old system (V5 was introduced in 2008), you should probably use Windows XP rather than Windows 7 - and definitely do not consider using Windows 8.
Modify your PC's NIC to 192.0.2.100/255.255.255.0. To use the Atlantic LAN, your PC must reside on the Atlantic LAN network (192.0.2.0/24 bit subnet mask)
Several IP Addresses are being used internally by the system; therefore NEVER use any Atlantic IP Address lower than 192.0.2.100.
No default gateway configuration is necessary, as this LAN is point-to-point.

Open Internet Explorer, probably best to use version 6. Make sure that there is no "Proxy" server settings in the browser, in the event that your PC is also used in a corporate intranet environment. Disable the Proxy server settings, so that your PC does not require a Proxy address to reach the desired URL.
In the URL/Address field, type: and press ENTER on your keyboard.

Use http - not https, at this time.

(192.0.2.5 is Assistant's IP Address on the Atlantic LAN. Every 4000 uses this same internal network)

From the Public page, click "Client Preparation", and click NEXT. Try to meet all of the requirements, including Java Runtime Environment setup. Your Assistant experience will depend on how well you perform these client preparation steps.
Assistant uses Java Applets for most all of the configuration windows; therefore, you must install the Applet Cache Manager, which ensures that your PC has the proper applets installed on your PC to interwork with Assistant.
After completing the Client Preparation, click LOGIN as the final step.
Since you have no idea what the "engr" password is, try using a different, rarely-used userID: rsta
Try using the default password: Siemens2000 (case SENSITIVE)

I expect that to work.
I suggest that if you are going to conduct training, you should look in to attending training. There is a UNIFY training center in Irving, TX. Of course, the new products are now being highlighted during training.
These older systems are technically ancient now. The DSCXL is no longer used since V6 - thus now considered as obsolete.

Thanks Iamnothere, the username and password worked. Thanks for the help. Are there any downloadable manuals for this unit.

There are literally hundreds of documents available for download for trained personnel and partners. Service documentation is not available for the general public. Attend training!
You will get everything you need!

Hi 'Skeetwize'
Even if you are from a 'telephony background' the HiPath is 'different' putting it mildy :)
As Iamnotthere has suggested you would need basic training on it to achieve anything.
Even an 'in house' course with experienced users would assist you

I love the new V7 because almost all of the documentation is accessible through the portal on the system - very nice. I'm supposed to be taking several courses in Irving as part of our upgrade project, probably sometime next year because this year I'm fried, but I don't know what's scheduled when yet, and they are still working on the itinerary because unify made content changes, etc....

donbo1 - at least your're fried, not fired! I was wondering if the training for the product was still in Irving. I was there a few times - once in a different part of town for the original Phonemail training with the 170meg hard drives that IBM recommended be lifted by 2 people. Talk about old and obsolete - behind me is a running Siemens 9006 - release 9006.3!

The last of my stuff will be gone the end of September, but the oldest I have is 9006.4. The first one I got in 1996 was 9006.2 - that was the year I went to the EMML class from Norstan in MN. Had the phonemail SE sitting here too, but that has been disconnected since 2010. I made it a part of the contract that the vendor had to dispose of all the old hardware. Electronic waste recycling can be so difficult these days.
