Domino with IIS6

I have followed the steps to install Domino for iis. My isapi filter is green arrow up. when i attempt to access the webmailredirect.nsf the url shows servername/webmailredirect.nsf?Open$Login then a 500 error.
How does the authentication work. What user name and password do I use when challanged. Do the name and passwords need to be synced in notes?
Very frustrated the directions say it is so simple. Ha.
