Hello,

first of all i have to admit that i am an absolute Notes/Domino beginner. I just want to install a mailserver to test an email archiving program.

So i downloaded the actual version (Domino 6.5) and installed it on my W2K/SP3 server. This is very easy :)

However, i cannot start the configuration. If i click the icon, it
.. will show me the options,
.. will start the program (nservice.exe)
.. and will terminate it after some seconds.
Same if i start the program from the command line.
No log info, no entry in the Event Viewer, absolute nothing. I do not see the configuration menu.

Is there anybody who can explain this effect?
Thanks & regards

After one day struggeling with various configurations, i saw that nservice.exe did not stay alive but each time i started the service, one more instance of serversetup.exe was started as well ... this stayed alive.

Searching for serversetup in the IBM knowledgebase, i found the solution for my problem immediately: The configuration GUI (java based) will not start if you choose the wrong resolution.

For my purposes, 800x600 pixel with 16 colors is optimal. But for Domino, this is a problem. Increasing the colors to at least 256 solved it immediately.
