I have noticed that when i join pc's to our 2003 domain it only shows user profile john in explorer and not john.domain.local? Older pc's joined to the domain all shows john.domain.local. Why is this the case all of a sudden?

I realy need your help on this one. Just realised that the last 10 pc's i joined to the domain for the first time only shows john(no domain name.local)user profile in explorer.

Users on Windows XP SP3 and Server is Windows 2003 SP2.

I've seen this before but since it didn't affect me, I wasn't concerned. What is the stress on this?

It has no negative impact but was just wondering why its not showing up correctly. Never seen this before.

I've noticed this condition before, and I think that this is the scenario that I've seen:

[ul]
[li]When only local accounts exist, the userprofile directories are named in the 'username' format[/li]
[li]When both local accounts and domain accounts exist (local account having been created first), the local userprofile directories are named in the 'username' format and the domain userprofile directories are named in the 'username.domainname' format[/li]
[li]When only domain accounts exist, the userprofile directories are once again named in the 'username' format. I suspect that if a local account with the same name is added after the fact, it will show in the format 'username.machinename'[/li]
[/ul]

smah is correct,

By default, profile folders are just the username.

If that folder already exists, the foldername simply gets appended by the machine name (for local accounts) or the domain name (for domain accounts).

Thanks,
Andrew
