Domain Trust between 2 WIN2K domains

I have one Windows 2000 domain that we've used for about 2 years. Our parent company has asked that we add an additional, separate domain for our users visiting from our home office, or for use by our home office. I've set up the new domain and active directory. However, when I attempt to set up a trust between the two, I get this message.

The domain cannot be contacted. If this domain is a Windows domain, the trust cannot be set up until the domain is contacted. Click Cancel and try again later. If this is an interoperable non-Windows Kerberos realm and you want to set up this side of the trust, click OK.

I don't know what to do. DNS is running on both servers.

I checked all of the things listed in this article, including creating the LMHosts file, prior to posting here. I'm not sure what else I should be doing. Thanks for our response.
