We have two domains setup and a trust is setup between the two domains lets call them domain A and B. I would like to grant membership to a user on domain B to a distribution group on domain A so that when an e-mail is sent to this group the domain b users receives the e-mail as well. But when I connect to domain B and try to make the user a member of the group in domain A I am unable to see domain A when I try to change the location. However, when I am connected to domain A and try to add the user from domain B I can see domain B when I change the location but I am unable to find any users. I can however see contacts that have been setup in domain b and add them to the group in domain A. So how can I setup a contact in domain A to forward its mail to the user in domain B. Both domains use the same exchange server.

create a contact for that user in domain B, then add that contact in the domain A DL.

Are you setup on a 2 way trust?

If I setup a contact for the user do I need to specify an e-mail address for the contact or will using the same user name for the contact as the actual user account suffice?

According to everything I have seen so far yes we are setup on a 2 way trust. I just started at this job so I am still trying to get my head wrapped around their systems.

I believe the users in Domain B will need to have email/user accounts setup in Domain A so that they may participate in the Exchange environment even if only through Webmail.

Otherwise, I would suggest installing Exchange in Domain B and creating email attributes for those users. Then create a connector between the two domains to keep email traffic local. It depends on the size of these domains to determine the easiest path.

You may also look in to creating a new subdomain for Domain A and then migrate the Domain B objects/users to it. And get rid of your current topology.

There are a lot of options and it seems you have inherited some FUN.

I was taking a closer look at the servers and realized that our exchange server is part of domain B. So it may be easier to create a subdomain in domain B and migrate domain A to it.

OK, so here is what I have done so far and the needs changed on me mid stream. We set up a distribution group in domain A and added the needed domain A users. We then needed to add the domain users from domain B to this group. What I ended up doing was making the distribution group in domain A a universal group and setting up a universal distribution group in domain B and adding the members to it. I was then able to make the domain B group a member of the domain A group. I was only able to do this after making both groups Universal Distribution groups.
