when I click the arrow to choose the domain but the local box name does not show at all. I cannot logon locally or to the network.

This happens as I tried to install a second processor in a compaq proliant 1600.

I performed a parallel install of winnt on the server and can login there but not to the original install.

Thanks for your help,

Dan

When you had another proc to a server NT gets upset. When NT is installed it sets up its HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) for the motherboard, hard drive controllers and procs. When you change any of these things NT won't boot.

There are some tools which Compaq (I think) put out to allow your to change the config of your NT install (according to Bill Gates you must reinstall NT) New Zealand, a great place to live.

HI.

Did you try the "Last Known Good" hardware profile when booting up the computer?

As mentioned in previous reply be darranagl, you might have the wrong HAL.DLL, so you can try this:
Update the parallel install to the same service pack as the original, and then try to copy HAL.DLL from parallel to original (keeping a backup of every change).
