I have one PDC, 3 BDCs, and Cisco 6509 Switch.
Some users use 'Cache Account' and others not.
When I enabled 'Spanning Tree Portfast' in the switch,
most of users' cache account problems are gone.
But some still use cache account.
If anyone have had the same problem, please let know what would need to be done.
Thank you all.

The only reason I see why you get cache account is that it takes to long for the users to log in or the connection is bad. How big is your network? how fast is it. 10/100? full/half duplex? Wan-links?

Run a ping -t x.x.x.x from a "cached" workstation, where x is the ip of the pdc. If you get a lot of errors on this "forever-ping" you should look over you network/cables/configuration.

don´t you have spanning tree portfast on by default?
As long as there´s only a workstation in the port, sp.tree portfast should be enabled (if you ask me).

The time it takes for a "port" to run the spanning-tree protocol instead of doing it fast (portfast) is perhaps 15-20 seconds. (perhaps longer on your switch, I don´t have experience with 6500-series)
A normal boot-up in the micro$oft world takes a lot longer then that. I don´t see why span.tree portfast should make any difference in login-time.

try this question in the "communications rack - Cisco: switches" forum as well.

Visit and see if you can find any similar problem there.

I already enabled 'Spanning Tree Portfast' on Cisco 6509 Switch, but some NT WKS4 still use 'Cache Account.'
I know that there is timeout for connection which causes 'Cache Account' problem.
But, the funny thing is that most of users can't access
NetApp storage. I don't know if this connection issue causes
NetApp access problem.
NetApp is used as member server.
If anyone has the similar or same problem, let me know what was your approach.
Thank you all.

Did you try the ping -t command?

What is NetApp? Is it an application you can´t reach?

If you have lots of connection problems, you should look into your cabling and other configuration. I think it´s hardware-based and not software-based (server). Perhaps you have configured switch-ports as 100mbit and only use category 3 cabling for example. If so, there´s got to be connection problems.
