Hi,

We are trying to set up a small department website. Our company policy is to have HQ register the domain name but we will be finding a website host ourselves.

What do we need to do in order to have someone be able to type in our domain name and have our site pop up?

Do we ask our web host for our site's IP and have our domain pointed to that IP address?

What is this domain pointer service and domain aliasing, do we need to use these?

Any insight would be helpful

Thanks

1. Register a domain name.
2. Arrange DNS hosting.
3. Arrange web hosting.
4. Get FTP details for web site from web hosting company.
5. Upload web site to web server using FTP details from point 4.
6. Have a (or other A record) for your domain pointed by your DNS provider to the web server that your site is hosted on.

Voila!

Chris.
