Every so often, sometimes every other day, sometimes 1 a week. The time varies, but the situation is always the same.

It starts by farm users unable to log into the published apps on the farm. The hour glass appears. Finally after about 5 - 10 mins, they receive an error that says xxx domain not available.

Servers hang, even logging on locally its sluggish. We end up cold booting the servers that are affected. Not all servers are affected and there isn't any rhyme or reason to which ones are. But a reboot to the affected servers correct this problem.

We are running 2000 Server/XPe FR3 and have approximately 15 servers in our farm. We are scheduling AD implementation, and currently have NT4 as the PDC/BDC with DNS and WINS and DHCP.

Anybody else experience this?

Thanks
Robin

robinlee,
What service pack are you running on your OS?
I had a problem like this when I upgraded from sp2 to sp3 on the windows side of things.
It was basically trying 2 manage the network traffic in and out of the nics and it would lock up the server.
I would log into it locally (it would take like 5 minutes) and the server would be fine. If you unplug the network cable from the box and let it sit there for a couple of seconds and plug it back in...the server would work just fine. It was all due to the stupid nic driver that was throttling the bandwidth. There were a couple of hotfixes that I applied and it fixed the issue.

Hope that helps.

Which hotfixes were applied? What sort of nic was it? We have ours on BroadCom 1G nic. Static 100/full to a Cisco 3750 series, which is also statically set. Any additional info would be helpful.

Thanks
