We have a client:

red-widgets

Their domain name is:

They want to add another domain:

that mirrors their site. Reason being that all printed marketing efforts list the company name (branded in their logo) as red-widgets, not redwidgets. So they feel users coming to the site from their print ads will want to type in Even though the print ad clearly says
So my question is how or what do you guys reccommend is the best way to handle the two domain names having the exact same content? Will that hurt rankings in Google? Or if I'm researching right will one of the sites succeed in the serps and the other fail because of the duplicated content?

If it's a guarantee that one will succedd then im ok with this, but if both suffer from the duplicated content then I need some advice.

If both domains are promoted then the SEs will only pick one to show and it is quite likely that they could show pages from one domain for one query and pages from the other for other queries. This will reduce the natural link pop as people could be linking to the different hostnames.

The best way is to 301 redirect one site to the other. This will ensure that only one site is seen.

It is very important to note that should the client decide to redirect the established hostname to they new one they will lose all their rankings due to the Google aging delay
