I have windows Me. I have a network card installed, but not curently connected to any other comnputers.
When the login box appears, you can just press ESC and get into the comnputer. I konw you can change this by changing something in network control panel, about loggin in to domain or something. But i tried this and locked me out of my computer, only getting back in by using scanreg /restore (ths was on a win98 machine tho).

My IP is fixed at 192.168.0.1 and my conmputer's name is MY_NAME (well, it's really my name but anyhway...)

How can I set this up?

(PS sorry for my sloppy typing!) [Thanks in advance|Hope I helped you]

What are you trying to achieve? You can't easily make ME (or 9x) secure (if that's your aim) - it was never designed to be. As its not connected to network, it won't make any difference (except long logon times while its searching for non-existent domain) if you tell it to logon to a domain in network settings.

I will probably be connecting it to my home network soon... Perhaps I should purchase a newer OS? (XP/2K).

What i did before was a registry tweak I saw - HKLM\Network\Logon\MustBeValidated, it said your computer has to be part of a Windows Domain - this is how I got locked out (the computer isn't part of a Windows Domain). I see the options in Network control panel, I just don't know what to set them to. [Thanks in advance|Hope I helped you]

I'm still not sure what you're trying to do! I'd definitely recommend 2k/XP over ME for the stability. You also get a secure logon as standard.

Yes I will probably get XP some time in the future. I was just wondering if this was at all possible with my current config. [Thanks in advance|Hope I helped you]
