Domain/Forest prep required for new R2 server in 2k3 environment??

Hi All,

Recently my PDC went up in smoke. I seized roles etc and got everything back online with my 2nd DC, then manually cleaned up metadata etc following petri & microsoft KB guides..

Now i've a new server with a fresh server install of 2k3 R2.

I wish to promote this and migrate the seized roles back across.

Problem is that when I DCPROMO it fails telling me that the domain/forest is not prepared. (Something like that)

So, I imagine that I need to upgrade the domain/forest schemas to leverage the functionality of R2..

Is this correct??

Assuming that I do need to do this, is it possible to tell my R2 server that I am happy with standard 2k3 schemas and promote it without domain & forest prep..? (I thought I read somewhere, sometime that this was possible??).

If I do have to upgrade schemas, are there any pitfalls/resources you knowledgable folk may be aware of?

But it does not address any know issues/pitfalls, or whether RC2 features can be 'turned off' meaning that the schema would not have to be updated at all?

The updates aren't major and shouldn't cause any issues it took about a minute when i did ours.

You must update schema to R2 version (31) before you will be able to promote R2 DC to your domain.
