I am a newbie to servers. I would like to install Exchange 5.5 to a Windows 2000 Server. It is currently a standalone file server. When trying to install Exchange I get an error saying server is not part of a domain. Do I need a registered domain name for this? We have one, but it is hosted on Yahoo. Will creating a domain change access from all networked computers?

You have to add the stand-alone server to the domain. Exchange has to be able to "talk" to the domain controllers. Thus, it must be a member of the domain also.

BradKB,

Exchange 5.5 on NT 4.0
Exchange 2000 on W2K

I'm not saying that it can't be done, but MS says that this is how they will support it.
