Over the weekend the company I'm at upgraded their network which involved a change in the domain name. Since that time all versions of Autocad that we run (from R14 to 2004) now refuse to run. The error we receive is:

Failed to update Registry. Please use regedit
Fatal Exception Error

This occurs on each machine when trying to load any drawing.

Anyone have any ideas?

The exact error message from AC14 is:

FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Exception at 470b24h

Hope this helps

Hi detroit,

Sounds almost like a rights issue more than a licensing issue. You didn't mention if your licenses were stand alone or networked. If they're networked, you may have to re-license the software.

If they are stand alone, it sounds as though AutoCAD is trying to update the registry and can't, if you can, log in as an administrator and see if it will run, if it does, you know you've found the problem.

I found the answer. Add the new domain\domain users into the power users group. Redid the permissions. Works like a charm. Thanks ot all
