I'm looking for a software that can do a sw/hw inventory, install sw remotely, resolve issues remotely and if all possible remote to servers as well over ip. I know HP have this option called TopTools for their servers.

Zenworks for Desktops does allow you to remote control or remote view a desktop with or without the user's permission. It can re-image a workstation remotely as long as the NIC is PXE compliant. You can copy files to a user's workstation for installation using remote control or by using a scheduler. The inventory module can collect hardware and software info including IP address.

If your servers are Netware 5.x then you can remote control them by IP with RconJ. There is also a Zenworks for Servers but I am not very familiar with its capabilities.

Hello,

Thanks, for the information. I'm aware of the rconsole command, but HP have something called TopTools which is control by ip and you can use this from home with the server name or ip address from a browser. TopTools allows you to control your server as if you're standing right in front of it. Down, reboot, unload nlm's and still have control over the server but this only works with HP. We have Dell servers. I'm looking for something like this to work with Dell. Thanks again.

jdavis37,

RConJ is different from rconsole. Rconsole requires IPX, whereas rconj works with IP. We use a third party program to remotely access our Netware servers. They have a free version that is very similar to rconj and a "pay for" version that is more secure if you are working on the Internet.

Hope this helps.

P.S. We also use ZfD for all of our workstation maintenance. I highly recommend it.
