I use a modem to access the Internet.
I am downloading a large file using WinXP.

I also use other operating system like Win98 and Win2k
Here I need to use other download software like DAP to manage disconnection.

Do I need to do also for WinXP, I think it has built in functions to continue existing downloads when connections is lost?

Don't know if it has or not - but surely you're better off with a download manager which you know does handle this properly?

simonnorthfield,

I don't believe XP has an automatic download resume. Note the following from =============
Does IE support download resuming?

*If* you reconnect to the download site while the partial load is still in the cache, and *if* the downloading server supports resume, and *if* the server is not one of many (ie part of a server farm) then just clicking on the link should allow the download to resume.

Watch the download managers. Some are not much more than spyware and some introduce viruses. You can check them here
Hope that helps.

Keeping a window with nola.com (refreshes webcam ever 20 sec) minimized at the task bar keeps me on...there are 3rd party thingys to do it...keepalive...among them...but my preference is to use tools at hand rather than introduce more 3rd party stuff. (just my choice) M$ software has enough problems on its own without that kind of help.

The 3rd party thing kinda' puts you in an endless loop...this fights that...then you have to download something else to take care of that....then the icons mess up so you download another...
(end of diatribe:>)
