Hi,

Yes Suse is a rpm based distro. One thing they do thats a bit different to redhat, mandrake, etc is that they organise the CDs into directories with groups of rpms that don't give version info. For example you'll see what I mean if you look in the subdirectories below :

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/7.3/suse

However, they do also have present it in the conventional way via a lot of symbolic links found in this directory :

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/7.3/full-names/i386

Apart from that and the fact that Suse tends to be KDE oriented I rate it pretty highly. In fact I'm sure I read somewhere that Linus uses Redhat in the office but Suse at home (or vice versa). It certainly (along with Mandrake) is the distro that seems to get the most rave reviews.

Hope this helps

Thank you. I've already ordered suse 7.3 professional. What bothers me, is I paid 80 bucks for it online (via suse.com) and best buy (local store) has it for 70 bucks...

woulda been cheaper/faster if i had of bought it locally. I'll be sure to check out local stores more often before I buy online.

anyways, thanks again!
