Does sendmail use /tmp to store temporary files? If it does, can these files be redirected to another filesystem which is less likely to fill up? I am using cron to run scripts which check filesystem sizes, etc and then send out pages and emails if specified thresholds are exceeded. /tmp filled up this morning and sendmail failed to properly send out the mailx messages. I got emails and pages but the message and the subject were missing.

If you have enough activity in /tmp that it is filling up, I would recommend adding space to it instead of trying to configure apps to not use it.

I agree. /tmp is there to be used. Should be several hundred megabytes.
