I apologize, but can anyone tell me if the Seagate STT3401A tape drive supports hardware compression? I've been looking for hours and can't seem to get a clear answer.

Thanks...

But, but, but.... thanks... I'll dig a little deeper to see if I'm missing something... but when I go into Control Panel > Devices for the tape drive, it says that compression is not available.

Well that what windows is reporting. You can download the quantum tools to have it query the device and it will tell you if compression is enabled or not. Its done on the drive not by backup exec or ntbackup. If you running a backup and getting past the 10gb or 20gn mark then compression is working depending on your taravn model.

Great, Steveot.... you've been a lot of help to me over the past week or so...
