Does Pardox 7 support access via ADO or ODBC

Hello,

Client has an old piece of their system in Paradox 7 which I have never used. Most of the rest of the project is being done with ADO.

Does Paradox support ADO access?
If not, can you access it via ODBC?

If either of the above is possible, can someone post some sample connection string code or point me to where I can find some? Thanks in advance for your help, ideas or suggestions!

You might be asking a couple of different questions:

1) Can Paradox work with ODBC data sources? Yes, through the ODBC support layer of the Borland Database Engine (BDE). Details can be located at

2) Is there a good ODBC driver for Paradox tables? Yes, though it's not the Microsoft driver generally supplied with MDAC. DataDirect (aka Intersolv) actually provides a far more robust ODBC for Paradox .DB files. (The MS Driver is based on an older form of the Paradox format and consequently doesn't support data types (or features) added later in the product's life.)

The cost of the DataDirect driver, though, may be a bit, um, suprising. However, Corel licensed the driver with Paradox 8.0 through v10.0 and provided it with Paradox (and Professional editions of WPO 2000 and later.)

Thus, the most cost effective way to obtain the good ODBC driver might be to find an older version of Paradox or WPO/Professional on one of the online auction sites.

For assistance constructing the connection string, it's probably best to re-post in a forum devoted either to the development tool you're using or one devoted to ODBC. Tek-Tips has both available.
