I have installed OSR505 on a laptop PC with two PCMCIA slots, one with a 3Com network card and one with a 56k modem. Network card works fine, but how can I get my PCMCIA modem working? It is not automatically detected by using Modem Manager.

Bertil, where did you find PCMCIA network card, working under SCO and notebook ? I'm desperatelly look for one for my HP Omnibook Xe4100. Tryed more than 10, but no luck.
What is yours configuration ?

Stankow,

Hi we have had really good luck using lynnsoft drivers for pcmcia devices under OSR5 it is not a free driver but it was worth the cost to us, the tech support is good and direct, we called with a problem and the tech modified the driver recompiled it and e-mailed it to us while we were on the phone. Any way check them out

Just as an example as you will probably be using a more recent card. The method may still apply though.

Here is how I set-up my 589D some time ago:

The first step is to boot using a dos 6 floppy and then insert the 3Com
util diskette and configure the card (install.exe) to use INT 3 and I/O
300.

Then boot SCO and config the card driver to be:

slot : 1
I/O add : 300
Int : 3
Shared RAM: d4000-d6fff
Media : TP or auto

I had fun with the shared RAM address. If the default of c8000 was used
then the card was seen at boot and IP packets were sent on to the net
but nothing was ever picked up.

My machine config is CTX P5/166MMX, 40Mb, 2.1Gb HD.

Just a note for those trying to use PCMCIA NIC's. The standard 3Com 3C589C or 3C589D works with the Enterprise version of 5.0.5 by simply installing the driver supplied by SCO. You do have to configure it properly: slot 1, address 300, IRQ 3, shared d4000 - d6fff, media/cable as auto. There is no need to pay high prices for third party software, unless of course you can't find a 3Com card. This is not a slight on Lynnsoft's drivers, believe me, I have used them and they work great with terrific support, but, if you don't have the money to throw away, the 3Com is worth a try.

Be VERY SPECIFIC on the card. When I say 3C589C, I MEAN 3C589C - NOT 3C589.

Now, as for the modem, well I have not had need to use one, so my guess is Lynnsoft would be a very good solution.
