I have 2 tables w/~8M rows each. The data (ISD) files are 500-550M each but the index (ISM) files are just barely (exactly 1KB/1024 bytes) under 4GB. I can't insert into them and OPTIMIZE TABLE has failed three times on each.

We are running mySQL 3.22.23b on an E4500 w/Solaris 2.7 & Veritas file systems.

Also, can anyone reccomend a good book for someone with an Oracle background who's been handed mySQL responsibility (hypothetically, of course :)?

Yes, unfortunately versions 3.22.xx of MySQL have a 4 GB table size limit, but the new version, 3.23.21, has a MUCH greater size limit.

See:

<A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> best book on MySQL at present is "MySQL" by Paul DuBois. <A HREF=" TARGET="_new">
