Hi. Thanks for helping me out.

Does Excel have an internal RDBMS like Access?

If not, what are my options other an external SQL database or a flat file.

The take-away from the supplied link is that as long as the user, in this case YOU, 1) KNOW the relations between tables and 2) USE that knowledge to JOIN the tables accordingly, the user will get correct results.

I have used this approch for nearly 20 years in Excel using Microsoft Query to access multiple tables/joins from Excel, Access, Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, text files.

So what about in an Apple Mac OSX environment? Should the Excel be linked to FileMaker or similar Mac database? Or would it have to be linked to a server that runs one of the traditional RDBMS's?

BTW, Excel does not get "linked" to a database such that when the database changes, Excel "automatically" changes.

Excel can make a connection to a database on demand to grab data in that instant. It might be akin to taking a snapshot as opposed to taking a video.
