HI,

We currently have a member server on a remote site that i would like to make an authentication server and dns server for that site.

The main site has a AD server with Active directery integrated DNS running (w2003)

When I add the remote server am i best running DCPROMO first then installing DNS or Install DNS first then run DCPROMO (or does it not matter)

Many Thanks

I usually make the server a DC then add DNS but I don't think it matters a great deal.

If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?

Since you're AD integrated you should DCPROMO first so that DNS "comes up" in AD.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

There are no more PDC's! There are DC's with FSMO roles!

Many thanks I'll DCPROMO first then add DNS

Does anyone have a easy step by step give to installing a secondry DNS server at a remote site where the DNS is active directoy integrated.

Is it as simple as installing DNS in add and remove,

selecting AD integrated and then letting it replicate

Many Thanks

Since it's AD Integrated, it will do everything on it's own through AD.

Just to make sure i have this right.

Run DCPROMO
Reboot and leave to make sure full sync
Install dns through add\remove programs and sync

Test with dcdiag and netdiag

And that should be it.

Many Thanks,

I'll give this a go today,

One last question can DCPROMO and installation of DNS be done over remote desktop connection?
