Hello every body.

can anybody tell me installing designer2000 on a clinet machine,
1. what affect does it have on the database
2. can the designer user change anything in the database
or can he damage the database by any means.
3. can we install it for just a specific user.
4. what is the proper way to install it.

thanks alot everybody

i realy appriciate it.

Designer 2000 is a large product. It has its own tables in an Oracle Database, but I don't think that this will need to be the same DB that contains your applications data.

I would work like this:

1 Read the installation procedure as carefully as you can.

2 Create a test DB on a test machine.

3 Make sure that the PC where you are going to install Des2K can tnsping the test database. For safeties sake you could remove references to any other databases from that machines tnsnames.ora file.

4 Take a backup of: The PC, the test DB (use exp for that and keep the dump file handy)

5 Install Des2K on the PC.

Repeat
Restore PC
Restore test database
Step 5
Until YouAreHappy(ish)

Don't skip the backups :) Mike
