I have 2 Legends that are UDP'd with a T1 that has only 20 channels because the number of trunks exceeds 80 ( it's in slot 17 ).
I'd like to convert the T1's to PRI but the D-channel would be trunk 84.

Does the D-channel have to be 24 ?

Is there any way to make this work ?

NO SIREE BOB!

The D Channel has to be 24.

If you try to make it work, it just won't.

Is there a way you can re-arrange your modules to allow the T1 to have all 24 channels available?

As in, just what cards does this system have?

Thanks again merlinman.

Reconfig would be a nightmare. There's lots of populated 408 cards in front of that DS1 card.

Then again, it would be an immense challenge with great satisfaction to do that.

And I'm paid by the hour, so I'll see what the bosses say ;-)

It may not be a nightmare, if you carefully analyze the current configuration of modules. There may be some simple changes that can be done. Remember that station ports and trunk/line ports are separate. Reprogramming lines/trunks are easier than doing stations with lots of different features.

As Merlinman mentioned, what do you have for a configuration?

Would you post a print of the module layout for us to take a look see? Are all the line/trunk ports on the 408 modules being used?

I've actually done harder reconfigs but I know it would be tough. Maybe not a nightmare but it may give me nightmares thinking about it. If they decide to do it, then I'll worry about it. Thanks for thinking about it though.

Then again, I was thinking while doing something else today.

What if:

I make trunks 1-4 unequipped on the T1, would that make the last 4 trunks available ? Hmmm, if it would, it would make the job nice and easy.

I guess I could find out by doing a config on my spare but if anyone knows, I'd appreciate knowing if was going to waste my weekend time ;-)

Thanks again for anyone's interest.

That will not work either, sorry.

It always sees that card as 24 Total Trunks.

I have actually done what you are suggesting. I had a customer who happened to outgrow their Merlin Magix system. They were planning on moving in a year and did not want to purchase an IP Office or Definity at that current time. Budgeting would allow it with the new building and the move. So I proposed two magix systems side by side connected with two T1 cards. The only issue was that they already had two PRIs and loopstart lines for other applications. The D-channel would have been on trunk 888(which doesn't exist). I did call AVAYA Tier 3 on it...and here was my answer...It will work...but don't call us if you have any issues. The PRI will see the D-channel, and the PRI will come up. But the issue is, if it technically isn't there in software...how do you troubleshoot it. Just throwing in my life experiences.

Part of the solution is to put all the 100D modules ahead of the analogue line/trunk modules that will allow full utilization of the channels of the three modules with analogue types being last. By doing this sort of config the station ports don't change even if the module moves to another slot as long as the station modules are kept in the same sequence with 100D modules put in between them.

I have a 408MLX in a lower slot number. I'll replace it with an 008. I'll have to mess with one T1 after that slot but that won't be too bad.

I would be interested to try jinxs solution first but think I'd still replace the 408 and make the d-channel "really there".

Thanks to everyone who has replied.

Well, I had system system that had line 884 as the last "D" channel, and it TRIED to work, but it was very intermittent, and NOT THE LEAST BIT Reliable.

You can try it, but I think you will be sorry in the long run.
