Does compacting do a repair automatically

Expanding on PHV's comment. In Acc97 the Tools-->Database Utilities toolbar lists Compact and Repair separately. In Acc2k and later it is listed as one entry 'Compact and Repair'. Now does that mean in Acc97 that Compact does not also Repair? Maybe browsing the MS Knowledge Base could answer this - but I think it is reasonable to assume that in Acc97 they were separate and exclusive features.
