Just out of curiosity does Backup Exec needs its own username to log into a win2k server for remote backup or can it use a username that already exists and is already logged in?

Thanks
Ron

To the best of my knowlege, BE doesn't need it's own username. It does, however, need to logon. The username that you use has to have the "log on locally" right and the correct permissions. I'd suggest that the user be a member of the "Backup Operators" group.

IMHO it is always a good idea to create a user specifically for BE.

If you are using account auditing it will let you keep the backup operation completely separated from anything, or anyone else.

It can come in real handy when debugging bandwidth issues.

In addition to the recommendations above, make mental note of the fact that whatever account you decide to use (unless the password is set not to expire), you will need to update the password in the service accounts immediately after the system account that BE utilizes has changed. Otherwise, you will receive errors the first time BE attempts to connect after the password change. ________
