When we backup our SQL databases master$4IDR creates and it is the size as master database. It is taking up a lot of space. What is that and is there any way to get rid of it? Thanks

Are you using Veritas Backup Exec version 9? If so, you better NOT get rid of that. That's the database for Backup Exec.

If neither you nor anyone else is using Backup Exec, then you should be able to get rid of it.

BTW-Backup Exec forum is Forum481.

Bill,
We use BE 9.1. Master db is very big and during backup master$4IDR gets created on the server. Is there any way to avoid creation of master$4IDR.We had no problem with BE 8.6.

Nope. This is new to BE version 9. When using BE version 9, their MASTER 'takes' over. Read their documentation as it says that you must restore THEIR Master db and not the one SQL Server provides. I forget the exact wording, etc. But check out Veritas' BE9 documentation.
