Does anyone use Business Alerts with Great Plains?

I am just looking into this feature and it seems that alerts can be made on fields for a table. Can it also be done based on certain functions being processed (Example Receipt Document posted)?

If yes how do I set this up?
 
I am not sure what Business Alert is. Is this a 3rd party product?

You can add triggers to your table to accomplish this. You can monitor any change at the database level using a trigger.
 
I've used business alerts to send emails but it seems to be very unstable. Yes, you can send business alerts for business processes just don't try the email part because I've had problems with Microsoft Outlook. You can use the wizard which helps a lot in the setup.
 
Thanks for your responses. I know that triggers can achieve this but having come across Business Alerts in the documentation I thought it was worth a shot to check it out.

I guess I will see how the Business Alert. Thanks for the heads up regarding e-mails.
