Believe it or not, I have a client that has one of these units still functioning, but we have run into a problem.
There is a plug that the handset goes into that is going bad. I have soldered the connections, but it is only a matter of time before it goes again.
The plug is a model 478A.
I was wondering if anyone has worked on these or if anyone has a suggestion as to where to find this particular part?
Thanks for any assistance.

Tripoth:

I am a collector of cord switchboards & would be VERY, VERY interested in learning about this particular board especially where it is located *AND* how I could get my name on the bottom of the switchboard so that when it hits the dumpster I can dig it out!

If you wouldn't mind, could you please contact me at "ncphoneman@hotmail.com"? I would really like to talk to you about this particular switchboard.

Thanks!!

TTT is right. I belong to the Telephone Collectors International group, sponsor of the singingwires list serve.

You will get help there - odds are you can buy a new or used jack. Plus if you need info odds are someone cane sell you (or give you) wiring diagrams and other info.

Have fun keeping history alive :)

The WECO 478A Plug Adapter is a double "prong" phone plug unit with a modular jack on the opposite end and a resistor across the transmitter leads. It is used for connecting a handset to REAL headset jacks on Consoles and Switchboards. It came in 3 colors, black, ivory, and white. The 478B was the same w/o a resistor and only in ivory.

You may be able to find an equivalent from some of the headset manufacturers out there. I know one of them makes one, but the name draws a blank right now!

Hope this helps!

Jim is right,

If all you need is the plug adaptor this should be easy.

I am 90% sure Plantronics sells these.

Thanks for all the help and leads. Yep, I did find a plug.
This machine is really a wonder and it will probably outlast me.
Thanks again.
