I tried Wise and liked it ok, but I had a bad time with tech support. I tried MS Package & Deployment Wizard but I can't create dir's and copy data files with it.
HHHEEELLLPPP!

I created an install with wise and installed it, and when the system rebooted, I got a GPF in explorer and I had to reload W98.

If you can help me please do.
(This is for VB6)

You can create dirs, and copy files with M$'s deployment wizard(just add dependancies)

bigfoot, Sorry your experience with Wise was frustrating. A year or so ago we started using Wise Install Master and have been very pleased.

Our requirements include installing distributed 4-tier apps on cd's to many wide spread users, some of them not even sure where to insert the cd. And we also need to update db schema as part of the process. Before Wise it was a nightmare, but now is routine.

What works for us might not for others, but Wise is a good answer of us.
John Kisner
jlkisner@jlkisner.com

I wonder if InstallSheild is an option, I remeber it came with my VC++, havent tried it much. maybe they have one for VB?
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML,Visual InterDev 6, ASP(WebProgramming), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

I was at Microsoft's site looking for Visual Installer but they want me to spend $2400.00 for a subscription to MSDN.

I created an ordering program and installed it with the Wise installer. After it rebooted the PC, I get a gpf in windows explorer and the system crashes.

When I do the setup with Package & Deployment Wizard it go's ok but I need to get user information and populate ini files.
well the 2400.00 thing, the Visual Instaler, is not the Deployment and package wizard that comes with VS6, the 2400$ for the MSDN subscription, basically gives you everything that Microsoft ever makes, you'll have every OS, Every office , every visual studio, every patches, every MSDN libaries, and so on, and they ship you new CDs ever bimonth or so(my CEO get the subscriptions, and ways getting, every version of everyhting, as well as all the DDK and SDK) that explains that pricetag, tho irrelavent to the topic.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML,Visual InterDev 6, ASP(WebProgramming), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

I think Wise is loading an outdated dll on the installed maching, but I can't tell which one.

Yeah.. It's the one that hoses windows!
