I've heard that using Access 2003 to build SQL server 2000 solutions works very well. Does it also work well with the new SQL Server 2005 Express and SQL Server 2005?
Access 2003 does not support the way that SQL 2005 does things. If you build an application in SQL 2000 it will move and function nicely in 2005 but what you do not have is native maintenance of your objects. You have to use SQL 2005 tools (or other compatible tools) to edit your SQL Server objects instead of the Access tools. I have an Acces 2003 ADP with SQL 2005. I have used the Server tools enough that the little maintenance I do is not too bad however it is frustrating to swictch from Acces to see the object in question then switch tools to the SQL server tool to edit it. Tip: Having 2 monitors on my desk takes the homicidal edge off the irritation.
I did not play with it long but Access 2007 seems to work well with SQL 2005. My system only had 1 Gigabyte of RAM at the time so Office 2007 was painful not to mention the constant install to finalize setup caused by switching to and from Office 2003.
