Hi

Can anyone tell me exactly what the difference is between a User and a Resource. I mean I know that a Resource is created for say a room to be booked out or an item to be hired out such as projector etc. BUT does a resource use a licence? Both users and resources can send and recieve mail so why would a resource not need a licence?

Confused

Les

Resources do not require licenses. They are joined to a user license as a supplemental object. In other words, every resource object has to be "owned" by a user object. That's why, when creating a resource, you have to identify the "owner".

In practice, we usually create a very small number of dummy user accounts to own all the resources in a particular facility. This limits the headache of tracking and reassigning resource objects when someone leaves or changes jobs and makes it easy limit the number of people who can actually change calendar reservations for resources in an unmanaged manner. I.e. most people have to invite/uninvite the resource from their own calendar as opposed to having direct access to adding/deleting items from a resources calendar.

Hope this helps.
