Hi
I have recently upgraded to Windows XP Home from Windows 98SE. I am on a small LAN now running 4 x Win XP Home and 1 x Win XP Pro (acting as a server).
We utilise Approach 9.xx to access several databases. The databases are stored on one of the Home machines and accessed across the network. They function normally when editing, searching etc. But when they are closed they seem to lock. Once locked they seem to take about 5 - 10 minutes to close properly. In attempting to fix the problem I checked the Advanced tab on the file attributes. There are 2 options I hadn't seen before:
1. File is ready for Archiving
2. For fast searching allow, indexing service to index this file
I disabled both of these options and the problem seemed to magicaly go away! But once in a while the problem comes back and I have to change the attributes again, which in turn solves the problem.
Is there a more permenant solution?
Regards
Gary
