Documents Don't Open Properly

So this is wacky...

After defragging my hard drive, I discovered that some of the .ai (version 9) files on the drive will no longher open correctly. Yes, the document name appears on the header bar. Yes, the document name appears checked in the "Window" menu. Yes, the document alias is visible when I look at the "Navigator" display. But, the file itself WILL NOT APPEAR in a window, such that you can actually directly view it, or work with it.

What the heck is going on here? Anyone else ever have this problem...?

have you dragged the file onto your toolbar of illustrator (wait till it comes to the front with the + icon) to open it, and if it does open correctly, Save as... the same file name to overwrite it.

I'm on a PC...are you describing a Mac thang?
