I've inherited a pbx system (7 Option 11's connected via WAN). Prob is there is no documentation anywhere as to when phones were created, for whom, or even where. There is a phone roster maintained by one of the ladies at the main office, but going through it today, found it was only about 90% accurate. At one site have 4 analog cards supposedly at 95% capacity but will be suprised if even 50% of ports actually used. At another site, phone closet has over 50 66-blocks supporting 35 users ??? and no call center. My question concerns best practices for keeping track of when/where phones are installed. Also, need to track punch blocks. Would one of you be willing to let me copy your inhouse procedures and/or dbase/spreadsheet format? Any other suggestions/advice will also be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

When it comes to auditing switch from screech there is really no easy way out to know where every signal tn go’s the only way to have 100% records is to trace every signal one of the wires starting with TN to Feeder to IDF and Station with digital stations you can Go to LD 30 and Run Unit test and see if it passes,500 sets are more difficult to trace you can’t run unit test on 500 sets the only way to trace 500 set is to trace cross-connect, hope this will point you in right direction.

Another way of tracing 500 sets is to disable them and wait for someone to complain. Course it is a large inconvience to the subscriber.

along the same line..... my 66 blocks don't have the TN's labeled any longer. How can I trace from the switch to the TN Block?

agree with above comments. suggested to cio that I should disable 500 ports to id rather than buy new cards.. he disagreed. My biggest interest is in procs you use to keep track of when and where you assign a phone and what you use to document it. On the flip, I didn't know about LD 30 so thanks for the info.
