Document opened from IE

Hi,

We created a link for an XLS file on our Intranet website, when certain users open that link, it opens up in XL which is fine, and when certain users click the same link it opens it up in IE window with limited XL functionality.

I want this link to open up in XL not in IE for all users.

What is the difference between both scenerios? What should i do so that this link opens up in XL.

Could it be about which FileTypes are associated with which program?
On the machine which opens in an IE window what happens if you try opening an excel file from a normal explorer window?
