I have a book written in MS Word, and I just bought InDesign. The InDesign hasn't been delevered yet, but I'd like to know if it will convert MS Word files and work with them, and will it output to my publisher who is using Pagemaker.

If not, is there any software that can do the conversion?

InDesign does not open Word documents: it places them (File>Place). The placed Word file is fully editable in InDesign.

InDesign cannot output anything of use for a PageMaker user. InDesign can create PDFs, which can be used by any decent publisher.

There is no software to convert InDesign to PageMaker, nor will there be. PageMaker development is dead. Your publisher should upgrade to InDesign.
