I'm unable to remove the first document in print queues of several color printers (HP 2000C & 2500C) which are installed in a NT server 4.0 with SP3. Why I cannot do that and how ?
First off, upgrade those servers' Service packs to 6a, that will help you with a few things. Next, try turning off the printers, and canceling the job from the originating workstaion. If that does not work, then go into services in control panel, and recycle your spooler service, and that will kill it. I have had that very same problem with many HP color printers ESPECIALLY the 2000, and 2500 series. These are a few suggestions, try them, and let me know if they work, if not I have some other stuff for you to try.
Yes to recycle the service spooler works, my life is saved, thanks.
Nevertheless, this stuff kills all the docs in others printers. Have you an other stuff to kill the guilty jobs without to kill the others ?
In my opinion, I think a printing NT server works poorly. Have you already tried another solution like a printing Linux server, what do you think ?
From my experience, this problem originates at the workstation sending the print job, not the print server running the spooler service. When this has occasionally happened to me, the less disruptive solution (when nothing else works like you said) is to re-boot the workstation that sent the print request. I know it sounds strange, but it works. I don't have to stop the spooler service on the print server and everyone elses print jobs continue.
Can't explain it, but know it works to fix the problems like you mentioned at the opening of this thread.
