dock not showing in 10.2.8

Problem - dock no longer showing on screen. Cannot open desktop folder in system preferences.

Any tips? We are going to call apple. but we are on the east coast and they are on the west coast and it will be hours before they open. Is there an easy fix to this problem.
The hiding is off. (for dock)

I'm not familiar with 10.2 as we went from 9 to 10.3 so this answer could be off.

Do you have Dock in Sys Prefs as opposed to Desktop.

Also see if you have Dock under the Apple menu where it's easy to mistakengly hide it.

But, as jmgalvin says - check the doc preferences, not the desktop prefs - should be able to select from the apple menu.

we had to delete plist for dock and desktop.
then everything was fine. we didn't have to restart either. we were on hold with apple 45 minutes (includes 2 disconnects ...)
